Transcaucasia, Greece. Ir.-Tur. element. Ae. cordatum is one of the most scat-tered species in Turkey. It is most variable in habit, flower colour, petal size, leaf size and fruit shape. The most notable variant is the very small leaved (c. 3 mm long) plant with short branches that was described by Boissier (Fl. Or. Suppl. 61, 1888) from Ulu Da. as var. pichleri. The gathering cited from Murat Da. belongs to this variety.
