Transcaucasia; N.W. Iran? Ir.-Tur. element. Subsp. albana occurs in the main Caucasus range.A. formosa Clarke in Sprengel, Neue Entd. 3: 157 (1822). Briefly described from Mt. Gargarus (part of Kaz Da.). The type has not been found, but from the description it could be an aberrant form of A. pavonina or possibly a hybrid between it and A. coronaria.
  A. pratensis L., Sp. Pl. 539 (1753). This is recorded by Boissier, on the basis of specimens collected by Duparquet and Sibthorp from Istanbul. We have seen the Duparquet specimen, which should be referred to A. montana Hoppe and is almost certainly not from Istanbul. Neither this species, nor A. pratensis, has been seen again in the Istanbul area.
