O. bornmuelleri Hausskn. in Mitt. Thür. Bot. Ver. 9:20 (1890). Syn: 0. amasianum Lacaita in J. Bot. (London.) 61:281 (1923). Figure 14, p. 335.
Close to O. ambigens, but differing principally in indumentum characters: leaves glabrous (setae excepted); tubercles very dense beneath, with short slender setae; calyx lobes adpressed-setulose over whole surface, setae on tiny glabrous tubercles; corolla pale yellow at first, becoming creamy-white. Fl. 4-7. Sandy, shaly, igneous and limestone slopes, Pinus brutia wood, Quercus scrub, steppe, etc., 60-2750 m.

  O. bornmuelleri was described as a hybrid between O. sericeum and O. stellu-latum Waldst. & Kit. I am forced by the Code to adopt this name instead of the unambiguous O. amasianum, the type of which was misidentified as O. stellu-latum, a species to which it shows little resemblance. Both types come from the same locality. The type of O. bornmuelleri resembles O. sericeum in having the most closely adpressed setae, with the smallest basal tubercles, on leaves and calyx; the tubercles are all stellate-hairy. There are no other differences between it and the type of O. amasianum except that the latter has subpatent setae on bigger tubercles.
