  Perennial. Stems 4-5, 20-35 cm, ascending, simple or nearly so, dark greyish when dry, sparsely patent-setose and shortly hairy. Leaves 30-60x2.5-7 mm, basal longer than cauline, linear-spathulate to linear-oblong, acute, sparsely setose on nearly flat tubercles and greyish with dense short hairs. Inflorescence of 1-2 many-flowered cymes, with a single alar flower. Bracts linear-lanceolate, lowest resembling cauline leaves. Pedicels 1-2 mm, of alar flower 4-5 mm. Calyx 9-10 mm, lobes narrowly lanceolate, patent-setose. Corolla white to cream. 11-13 mm, cylindrical-campanulate, slightly constricted below lobes, glabrous, Anthers 4 mm, equalling filaments, included. Nutlets unknown. Fl. 6. Pastures, igneous slopes, c. 1900 m.
  Type: Turkey A9 Kars: Sarikamiş-Selim, 1900 m, 13 vi 1957, Davis & Hedge, D. 29538a (holo. E! iso. K).
  Endemic; no close relatives. Euxine element. The following specimen approaches O. nigricaule: A1(E) Kirklareli: 9 km E. of Babaeski, Sorger 62-96-4! This species is otherwise known only from the type gathering.
