Caucasia, N. Iraq, N.W. Iran. Euxine (mt.) element. Specimens collected by Calvert in Turkish Armenia near Erzurum were cited by Boissier (Fl. Or. 5:249, 1882) as A. fallax Schultes & Schultes fil. The name A.fallax is illegitimate according to Steam (Ann. Mus. Goulandris 14:124,1978), the correct name being.A. senescens L. subsp. montanum (Fries) Holub. A. senescens has membranous outer bulb tunics and is a plant of C. & S. Europe. Examination of specimens collected by Calvert & Zohrab in Armenia (E! OXF!) identified as A. lineare L. revealed that their bulb tunics are reticulate-fibrous and they are in fact A. szovitsii. Other sheets collected by Calvert near Erzurum {nos. 565, 742 — G!) and named A.fallax by Don lack outer bulb tunics but in their leaves and umbel they do not differ from A. szovitsii.
Two specimens from Rize and Çoruh, marked with an asterisk in the citations above, have shorter stamens.
