Corm oblong-ovoid, 15-35 x 10-20 mm; outer tunics black or blackish-brown, coriaceous; innermost tunic dark brown with a short neck to 2(-3) cm. Leaves (2-)3(-4), linear to linear-lanceolate, 1-4 x 0.2-0.6(-l) cm at anthesis, to 17 x (0.3-)0.4~0,8(-1.8) cm at maturity, acute, green, glabrous. Flowers l-2(-3), white to purplish-pink. Limb of perianth segments oblanceolate to narrowly oblanceolate, 20-26(-30) x (4-)6-8(-9) mm, base usually aurieulate. Filaments 1.5-4 mm; anthers black, purplish-black, greenish-black or olive-brown. occasionally (fide Stefanoff) yellow, 2-3(-4) x 1 mm; pollen yellow. Capsule ellipsoid to ovoid, 15-30 mm. FL (3-)4-6{-7). Limestone and shaky screes, alpine pastures at edge of snowpatches, Pinus forest, 1300-3400 m.

Caucasia, N.W. Iran. Ir.-Tur. element. Very closely allied to M. attica and not always easily separable from it. Specimens from C2 Muğla (Göktepe, Guichard TUR/66/62!) have scabrid or glabrous leaf margins; however, those from C.2 Antalya (e.g. Ak Da., 2800 m, Contandi. et a!.!) have glabrous margins as in M. irigyna but more closely resemble M. attica in number of Jeaves and shape of perianth segments. Plants from the eastern part of the range with broad leaves, broad perianth segments and filiform basal auricles haye been distinguished as M raddeana Regei but considerable variation in leaf breadth occurs in populations of M. trigyna throughout its range. Although many specimens have basal auricles their shape varies considerably and in some gatherings they are absent. There is a tendency for broader-leaved specimens to occur in the eastern part of the range, but specimens from CI Aydin, e.g. Uslu 3888, .also have leaves up to 18 mm broad as well as flowers with relatively narrow perianth segments.
