Greece, Aegean, Cyprus, Latakia, Lebanon, N. Iraq, N.W. Iran. E. Medit. element. Related to O. quadripunctata but differs in having larger flowers with an elongate labellum and longer spur. The labellum usually has many spots and lines along the centre part, in contrast to O. quadripunctata. O. anatolica normally has a downwards-directed labellum and a ± steeply ascending spur, due to the deflexed direction of the outer section of the curved ovary. Plants with a fairly straight ovary (which can be observed occasionally, but more so in dried material) therefore have an upwards or horizontally directed labellum and a ± downwards pointing spur.
