A. glomerata (Bieb.)Griseb., Spic. 2:166(1844). Syn: Crucianellaglomerata Bieb., Fl. Taur.-Cauc. 1:107 (1808); A. squarrosa C. Koch in Linnaea 24:461 (1851). Ic: Takht. & Fedorov, Fl. Erevana ed. 2: t. 60 (1972).
Perennial herbs with robust woody rootstock. Stems numerous, stolon-like at base, ascending to erect, vegetative and floriferous, (3-)10-30(-40) cm, semiterete, ± hairy, with short, densely leafy lateral branches. Leaves in whorls of 6-8, (3-)7-12(-18) x(0.3-)0.5-l(-1.5) mm, thick and linear, glaucous, with strongly revolute margins, ± hairy. Thyrses consisting of dense cymose ter-minal and lateral heads; bracts (5-)6-9(-11) mm, lanceolate, often ± connate with stipules into lobed elements. Corollas 5-merous, (5-)6-9(-l 2) mm, purplish, greenish or yellowish with densely hairy to glabrous tube and lobes. Mericarps 2.5-4 mm, hirsute or glabrous and granulate. 2n = 20.
